Unspoken: Start A Fire Tour

The contemporary Christian band, Unspoken, brings their Start A Fire Tour to Dothan on Thursday, April 9th.  The tour also includes Johnny Diaz and the JJ Weeks Band.  The concert will be at Ridgecrest Baptist Church and will begin at 7:00 PM.  General admission tickets are available for $17 and can be purchased at Ridgecrest Baptist Church, Eagle Eye Outfitters and at The Joy FM offices.  Get a taste of this upcoming event by listening to the title song, Start A Fire, here: Unspoken: Start A Fire Video.

26th Annual Alzheimer's Conference, Wednesday, April 1st

The Alzheimer's Resource Center and Wallace Community College will host the 26th Annual Alzheimer's Conference Wednesday, April 1, at the Dothan Civic Center. This year's speaker will be Teepa Snow, world renowned speaker and educator on Alzheimer's disease and caregiving. The theme for the conference is "Best Care Practices in Dementia Care; Providing Care Without The Fight." The conference hours are 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. The cost is $65 with CEUs and $25 without CEUs. To register, call Wallace Community College at (334) 556-2205. The Dothan Rescue Mission presents "A Night of Worship"

The Dothan Rescue Mission will be hosting it's inaugural "Night of Worship" this Friday evening, April 3rd at 6:00 PM. This Good Friday event will feature some of the Wiregrass's best musicians and vocalists, assembled from multiple congregations, to worship at The Dothan Opera House.  The event will appeal to all ages and congregations as the focus will be an Easter celebration of the love of Jesus and His sacrifice on the cross.  This event is FREE, but you will need a ticket to reserve your seat at The Opera House.  You can do so by calling the Dothan Rescue Mission at 334-794-4637 or stop by the Administrative office at 216 E Crawford Street.  Come and join and celebrate in this first time event for Dothan.

Win A Big Green Egg and Support Wiregrass United Way 211

Wiregrass United Way 2-1-1 is selling tickets for a lucky person to win a LARGE Green Egg Grill/Smoker package. Tickets are $10 each or 3 for $25 and are currently on sale.  Get your tickets by calling 334-836-1963 Monday through Friday between the hours of 8 - 4. You can also purchase your tickets at the 2-1-1 booth at the Tri-State BBQ Festival.  The Festival is April 10th and 11th and will take place at the Houston County Farm Center, where the Green Egg Grill will be on display. The winning ticket will be drawn at the BBQ Festival April 11th. You do not have to be present to win.

Azalea Dogwood Trail Today

We are seeing the first signs of Spring as the temperatures rise and the flowers and trees begin to bloom. And as Spring arrives, so does Dothan's Azalea Dogwood Trail.  This will be the 51st year of this annual event, as visitors from near and far make the pilgrimage to view the beauty of Dothan's historic neighborhoods in full bloom.

Landmark Park's Spring Farm Day

On Saturday, March 21st, turn back the clock 100 years and experience living history. Enjoy demonstrations of sheep shearing, blacksmithing, plowing with mules, basket weaving, quilting, and other traditional springtime farm activities. Entertainment will include an “Old Time Fiddlers Convention” and two stages of traditional music.

Miss Belle of the Wiregrass Pageant

The Miss Belle of the Wiregrass Pageant will take place on Saturday, March 14th at The Cultural Arts Center. This is a great way to have some fun, practice for future pageants, AND raise money for the many, many pets at the Wiregrass Humane Society shelter. The Mural City Artwalk art festival returns to downtown Dothan today, Saturday, March 7th. Come see downtown transformed into an arts district for a day.  The festival features more than 50 artists, musicians, vendors and various activities for the kids.

Lifeguard Training Class in March

Dothan Leisure Services is conducting a third lifeguard training session from March 16th through April 2nd.  The class occurs on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 6 - 9 PM.  To participate, you must be at least 15 years of age and able to demonstrate basic swimming skills.  Once you complete the course, you will receive an American Red Cross Lifeguarding and Standard First Aid certificate valid for two years.

Congratulations Azalea Dogwood Pageant Winners

The 2015 Azalea Dogwood Pageant, sponsored by Dothan Leisure Services and the National Peanut Festival, was held at the Dothan Civic Center on Saturday, February 28th.  Thirty-two girls, grades 6-12 representing all schools in Dothan/Houston County, competed for the three titles.
The Queen, Princess, Maid of Honor and their Courts will preside over the festivities surrounding the Azalea Dogwood Festival.  They will lead the entourage of cars around the seven mile Trail on the Sunday selected for the Festival, and then will remain on the lawn at 115 Girard  to greet passers-by.  The winners are:

Olympic Style Archery Class in March

Dothan Leisure Services is offering an Olympic-style archery skills class. The class will take place at Eastgate Archery Range on March 23rd from 1-4 PM and March 24th 1-4 PM. Class content covers archery history, safety, technique, equipment, mental concentration, and self improvement. The remainder of the class will be spent putting these concepts into practice.
