Celebrate National Marriage Week

The Saliba Center for Families is joining other nonprofits across the country by celebrating National Marriage Week 2015 right here in Houston County.  The center’s STRONG Families Department is offering community discussions and educational opportunities from February 7th through 13th as part of its commitment to marriage and healthy relationships skills education.

"Souper Bowl" Food Drive


This time of year, a hot bowl of soup really hits the spot and provides a filling, nutritious meal that's simple to prepare. That's why each year during this time the Wiregrass Area United Way Food Bank conducts a soup drive to benefit the Brown Bag Program.  The Brown Bag Program provides a few extra groceries to needy area senior citizens. The "Souper Bowl" soup drive is currently in progress and runs until the Super Bowl, which is Feb. 1 this year.

Temple Emanu-el Sisterhood's Gala Art Exhibition & Auction


The Temple Emanu-el Sisterhood invites the public to a Gala Art Exhibition and Auction. The event kicks off with a Champagne Preview on Saturday, Jan 24, at 6 p.m. and the auction begins at 7 p.m. Admission is $10 per person.  A portion of the proceeds go to benefit local charities. If you miss Saturday, there will also be a "Take a Second Look" Sunday, January 25, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.  Bagels and coffee will be served. Miracle League Baseball Registration


Dothan Miracle League will be taking registration for the Miracle League Baseball program to be played at Miracle Field located at Westgate Park.  This baseball league is designed for mentally and physically challenged individuals and is open to anyone ages 2 years and up (2-5 years of age participate in the toddler league) no matter where you live. We are also accepting registration for volunteer coaches and volunteer buddies to help those individuals who will need some assistance.  Registration will be held January 24, 2015 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Miracle Complex

Bridal Extravaganza on Sunday, January 25th


The Dothan Eagle brings back their Bridal Extravaganza for the 18th year.  More than 40 different vendors to help you coordinate all of your wedding needs will be at the Dothan Civic Center on Sunday.

High Noon Trailblazer 5K to Benefit DHS Track Team


On January 31st, come out to Westgate Park and hit the trail.  The High Noon Trailblazer 5K will take place at noon and the proceeds will help benefit the Dothan High School Track Team for their upcoming season.

The Cultural Arts Center is presenting, "Mark Twain and Mr. Clemens", on February 6th and 7th.  Set in Samuel Clemens parlor, Mr. Clemens will share with you Mark Twain's hilarious witticism, wisdom, and humor.

Karate Classes Offered at Westgate

World Yoshukai Karate offers ages 7 and above instruction in traditional Karate, self-defense, physical conditioning, the use of traditional Karate weapons, and respect, manners and discipline.  Mike Culbreth, Master Instructor, a 7th degree Black Belt, instructs all classes, as he has for more than 35 years.

Bluebird & Hummingbird Workshops at Landmark Park

Landmark Park Photography Contest - Entry Deadline Approaching


Landmark Park visitors are encouraged to enter the annual Picture in the Park photography contest. Photos will be accepted through January 31. Photos must have been taken at Landmark Park in the last year.

EXTENDED REGISTRATION: Youth Baseball & Fast Pitch Softball


The Dothan Department of Leisure Services will be holding youth baseball and youth fast pitch softball registration January 23rd and 24th.  Extended registration has been announced and will be held Monday and Tuesday, January 26-27.  The extended registration will be for leagues with player openings ONLY.  Sign ups during extended registration will not guarantee your child a spot on the roster.

WMA Event - Memories: A Grandparent Photo Wall


Take part in the art at Wiregrass Museum of Art! The brand-new Art Learning Lounge will feature a Grandparent Photo Wall where you can honor your grandparents and their stories. Take a photo and tell a story about your grandparent(s). Bring your photo and story in person to the WMA on Saturday, January 17 between 10 am and 12:30 pm for the Family Opening of the Art Learning Lounge, or bring it in anytime before February 1, 2015.  Your photo will be on display at the museum until February 21st. Supershot Basketball Competition


Dothan Leisure Services will be sponsoring a Supershot Basketball Competition for boys and girls ages 9-10, 11-12 and 13-14.  The competition will be held on Tuesday, January 13th at Wiregrass recreation Center.

Sony Scholarship Applications Are Now Available


Are you a senior at Dothan or Northview High School?  Do you you know someone who is?  If so, high school seniors are now eligible to apply for the Dothan Area Chamber Foundation Sony Scholarship.  The Sony Scholarship is a $10,000 scholarship awarded to a current senior at both high schools in the Spring 2015.  Eligible seniors should see their school guidance counselor to pick up an application package. Applications will need to bee completed and returned back by to school counselors by 4:00 PM on February 2, 2015.

Coffee With A Cop - January 14th


How often have you heard someone say, "There needs to be better communication between the police and the community."?  The Dothan Police Department has worked hard at that very topic and again is offering a chance for you to sit down and chat with them during, Coffee With A Cop.  These events have been highly successful over the past year and gives both sides a chance to share information, concerns and appreciation.
